"A Walk Through Dementia" is a virtual reality app by Alzheimer’s Research UK, offering a unique perspective on the daily challenges faced by individuals with dementia. This immersive experience, narrated by Dame Harriet Walter with an introduction by Jon Snow, aims to deepen understanding beyond memory loss. Users are placed in scenarios where they must navigate tasks like shopping, navigating streets, and making tea, highlighting the cognitive and physical hurdles dementia can introduce.
This app, developed in collaboration with those living with dementia and UCL’s Dementia Research Centre, uses a combination of computer-generated environments and 360-degree videos to vividly depict the struggles faced by individuals with dementia. With three scenarios unfolding progressively, users can gain insights into the multifaceted impact of dementia on everyday activities.
